Say Hello to ‘The Style Kin’

Hello, hello, my lovelies.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been working on re-branding my blog and other platforms and I’m finally ready to introduce you guys to ‘The Style Kin’!

I started my blog in early March in 2019 while I was doing a course in Bangalore; after years of wanting to start one up since college. At the time, the course wasn’t as heavy and I was longing for a creative outlet. So, with a lot of encouragement from the people closest to me, I took the leap and purchased my own domain:

It was a learning curve: I had never built a proper blog before, didn’t know how to pose for the camera (I preferred to be behind the lens), and whilst I had some basic knowledge of editing software, I was by no means proficient.

I’ll admit, as a ‘recovering perfectionist’, I’ve always been hard on myself, but with the blog, I wanted to allow myself to make mistakes because I knew that I was starting from the bottom and still had a lot of things to learn. It’s one of the major reasons behind why I named my blog ‘Flounder and Fumble’ in the first place. You can read more about it here.

I’ve grown since then. I’ve made more progress with the side of me that always wants things to be ‘perfect’. It’s still a part of me, but it’s not all that I am. Entering my third decade, I felt like I had outgrown it – and so had my blog. So came my second leap: a complete name change.

This blog was always meant to focus on my personal style and fashion inspiration (with a little bit of lifestyle content here and there), and I wanted the new name to reflect that. And then it hit me: The Style Kin. A name that encapsulated something literally related to style.

I couldn’t be happier now that everything is more settled. I have loved my blogging journey as ‘Flounder and Fumble’ but I’m excited to start afresh as ‘The Style Kin’. Let me introduce you to my new chapter:

One Thing At A Time

One Thing At A Time

Multi-tasking and I? Let’s just say we’re not the best of pals, okay? I’m the kind of person who can either do one thing at a time very well or many things at once not very well – at all.

Oh sure, I can paint my nails while watching a video in the background, but recently, as a slew of bigger priorities came my way, I dropped the ball here and there. Also, I’m very bad at painting my own nails so maybe I really shouldn’t be watching renovation videos while doing it. Gorgeous decor can be very distracting.

I don’t know how people are able to keep multiple plates spinning at once. I mean, kudos to working parents, man. The only living beings I’m responsible for are my cat, my plants and myself and it feels like a lot.

I’m pretty sure to anyone looking at me from the outside, I kind of look like I’m a houseplant myself because I don’t seem to be doing much at all. It’s because my brain has taken a holiday without me. It took one look at my To-Do list, felt overwhelmed and ran away. You know that feeling though, right? You have so many things to do and end up doing nothing at all because you’re overwhelmed? Yep, same.

I was distracting myself by looking at pretty things on Pinterest when I came across a quote that said: “Focus on the step in front of you, not the whole staircase.” I don’t know about you, but that was free wisdom right there so I took it and ran with it.

One step, one thing at a time. That’s all I can do right now. That’s all anyone can do, really, according to this article on The Atlantic on why some people are better at multi-tasking than others. If you’re one of them, send me some tips, eh?

Until next time, have a good week, lovelies.
