Say Hello to ‘The Style Kin’

Hello, hello, my lovelies.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been working on re-branding my blog and other platforms and I’m finally ready to introduce you guys to ‘The Style Kin’!

I started my blog in early March in 2019 while I was doing a course in Bangalore; after years of wanting to start one up since college. At the time, the course wasn’t as heavy and I was longing for a creative outlet. So, with a lot of encouragement from the people closest to me, I took the leap and purchased my own domain:

It was a learning curve: I had never built a proper blog before, didn’t know how to pose for the camera (I preferred to be behind the lens), and whilst I had some basic knowledge of editing software, I was by no means proficient.

I’ll admit, as a ‘recovering perfectionist’, I’ve always been hard on myself, but with the blog, I wanted to allow myself to make mistakes because I knew that I was starting from the bottom and still had a lot of things to learn. It’s one of the major reasons behind why I named my blog ‘Flounder and Fumble’ in the first place. You can read more about it here.

I’ve grown since then. I’ve made more progress with the side of me that always wants things to be ‘perfect’. It’s still a part of me, but it’s not all that I am. Entering my third decade, I felt like I had outgrown it – and so had my blog. So came my second leap: a complete name change.

This blog was always meant to focus on my personal style and fashion inspiration (with a little bit of lifestyle content here and there), and I wanted the new name to reflect that. And then it hit me: The Style Kin. A name that encapsulated something literally related to style.

I couldn’t be happier now that everything is more settled. I have loved my blogging journey as ‘Flounder and Fumble’ but I’m excited to start afresh as ‘The Style Kin’. Let me introduce you to my new chapter:

A New Chapter: Hindsight is 20/20

A New Chapter: Hindsight is 20/20

Happy New Year, my lovelies.

Personally, I don’t feel any different but I guess that’s to be expected with what’s happened in the past year. Such unpredictability makes it tough to know how to feel about the upcoming future.

2020 was a yin-yang year for so many of us: so many ups and downs, conflicting emotions, sadness and worry about the pandemic, and yet at the same time, gratitude for what we’re already so blessed with. It still confuses me even now.

When we first ushered in 2020, the phrase that had come to my mind back then was the one that says “Hindsight is 20/20.” It’s a phrase that means that it is much easier to understand situations you’ve experienced in the past when they’re analyzed later on; and I think that 2020 – and its following period – will serve as a perfect example of that phrase.

The future provides a different perspective to things when you’ve had enough time in between then and now. There are lessons that came with last year that we’ve already begun to understand, but I have a feeling that there’s still a lot more to appreciate and realize.

Figuratively speaking, I fell to my knees, downtrodden, many times in 2020. I’m still trying to figure many things out, trying to find my feet again. My one wish for myself and for every one of you is that we will remain strong, bull-headed and stubborn enough to hold on to our dreams and our visions for life no matter what comes our way.

I hope you and I find what we’re looking for in 2021. Here’s to a new chapter.
